#89 Pizza East

November 23, 2011

Don't book and, like us, you'll be relegated to the Pizza Bar, which nudges up against the kitchen so hard you're basically in the oven. Fun for refereeing staff tantrums, though.

It’s nice to see that style hasn’t kicked substance in the nuts at this central Shoreditch pizza place. Yes, there’s bare brick, skinny staff with high hair and a predictably trendalicious clientele. But Pizza East can lay claim to producing some of the capital’s best pizzas, with a great knack for melding experimental toppings to create pleasingly fulsome-tasting dishes. The veal meatballs with prosciutto and cream pizza is a modern classic. If pizza’s not your thing, give their crispy pork belly a try – prefaced with the current restaurant fave, veal bone marrow. It’s all good.
