#208 London Philharmonic Orchestra
Okay, now I get why the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment are the Johnny Rebs of the south-of-the-river orchestra world. The London Philharmonic Orchestra are the mainstream, the standard, the white-bread elite, the orchestra that people who don’t go to orchestras (like me) think all orchestras are like. They rocked up in full white tie, their pianist had the correct white, floppy hair, and their conductor spazzed himself round the podium like the pro that he was.
They played proper, sensible, grown-up, classical music. It was, of course, flawless. But it wasn’t that interesting to me or Mrs Brown. So my vote goes for the OotAoE. Your mileage may vary, of course.
“Yawn!” you cry, you philistine you. “Who cares about stupid orchestras! Get to the good stuff, Mr and Mrs Brown! The stuff with drinking in! Drinking and hats!”
Patience, uncivilised reader. The good stuff is coming up in a bit.
